According to News9.com, the Average American will be involved in 4 car accidents in the course of their lifetime.  Please make sure you are prepared with Underinsurance and Medpay insurance!

Why do you need underinsurance?

Underinsured motorist coverage steps in when you’re in an accident with an at-fault driver whose liability limits are too low to cover the medical expenses of any injured people. A 2012 study by the CDC showed, that on average, hospitalizations due to crash-related injuries can cost a person about $57,000 over their lifetime.

South Carolina’s auto accident laws only state that drivers must have $25,000 in liability coverage.  Therefore, unless you want to come out of pocket $32,000, you should talk to your Agent today about underinsurance.

What is MEDPAY?
  • Medical payments coverage (MedPay) is an add-on to auto insurance that covers expenses related to vehicular accidents.
  • Medpay is a dollar for dollar reimbursement, which is great for covering large deductibles.
  • MedPay covers you and any passengers in your vehicle and any pedestrians you may injure.   Medpay will also cover you if you are a passenger in another vehicle or are injured by a vehicle as a pedestrian, bike rider, or public transportation rider.
  • The average individual yearly deductible was $5,101 during the Open Enrollment Period in 2024.
  • Medpay can be bought in $1,000, $5000, $10,000 or $25,000.

Driver Stats in South Carolina

According to recent data from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, a traffic accident occurs every 3.7 minutes in the Palmetto State. In just under 10 hours, a fatal collision claims another life on South Carolina roads. The statistics only become more alarming when examining specific demographics and scenarios.

  • Every 28 hours, someone loses their life in a drunk-driving wreck
  • Teen drivers are involved in fatal or severe crashes every 1.3 hours
  • Drivers without a seat belt die every 27.5 hours
  • 1 pedestrian dies every 2.3 days
